In the 1980s a new generation of pirate radio stations exploded on to Britain’s FM airwaves. Unlike their seafaring swinging 60s forerunners, these pirates broadcast from London’s estates and tower blocks to create a platform for black music in an era when it was shut out by legal radio and ignored by the mainstream music industry. After twenty odd years away from the stage as a group, London Posse have reunited for a short period to honour the memory of Sipho with a select few shows around the country.
We were fortunate enough to be able to get them down to our Carnaby Street store prior to their show that evening, and got the chance to speak to them beforehand about the initial forming of the group, how Covent Garden played a big part in the development of the UK scene, and what individualism meant to them.
