News of his death emerged online followed by friend DJ Jedah, confirming the news in a tweet stating: “I feel sick to the stomach. To find out my boy Scholar has passed away has destroyed me.”
I feel sick to the stomach. To find out my boy Scholar has passed away has destroyed me. Even recently I was speaking to him on the phone near enough every night till the late hours. I know he was fighting his demons and I did my best to keep him positive and not lose focus……

There’s has been no official statement from DJ Scholar’s family regarding this passing so details surrounding his of death are unclear.
Following the news spreading on social media scores of fans and fellow grime artist have been paying tribute to the late grime veteran on Twitter.
Another grime legend and founding member of the N.A.S. T. Y. Crew, Sharky Major paid his respects in a tweet saying:

South London rapper young Teflon reflected on the early grime days tweeting:

DJ Scholar and the rest of Ruff Sqwad formed in secondary school in 2001 and went on to be one of the most significant crews in grime, releasing several classic mixtapes along with holding down radio slots on the likes of Rinse FM and DeJa Vu
In more recent times DJ Scholar had his hand in producing for newer generation of grime mcs including Chip and Stormzy‘s 2015 link up – ‘Hear Dis’
