After the red-eyed delights of ‘Autumn Nights’ and ‘Wild Herb’, UK hip-hop’s keynote speaker, the High Plains Drifter, Jehst returns to bless us with the visuals for his new ‘State of the Union (Freestyle)’, produced by Pitch 92.
The YNR Productions head-honcho brings cold, jagged edge flows that reiterate “if you didn’t know, Billy Brimstone’s the king”. Calling himself “Clark Kent when I step in the booth”, Jehst addresses his subjects to the glacial tip-toe of Pitch 92 sending strings swirling, pre-empting the moment of the hatchet coming into view from over the shoulder. As critical as any 6 o’clock bulletin, ‘State of the Union’ is for when you can hear a pin drop, and when it’s being pulled out: “Apocalypse when? I’m letting off shots with the pen”.
