From Bow To Buckingham Palace: The Godfather Of Grime Wiley Honoured With MBE
Grime pioneer Richard Kylea Cowie, or Wiley Kat, and now simply Wiley, has been recognised for his contributions to music and the community in the Queen Honours list.
2017 has proven to be a year Wiley has cemented his legacy and has been officially acknowledged for his influence, creativity, innovation, and for redefining British music. Earlier this year he picked up the award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’ at the NME Awards, and ‘Innovation In Sound’ Award at Q Magazine Award .
Commenting on having the MBE bestowed on him, the 38-year-old-MC posted on instagram : “Big up the Queen thank you” following the honours list being made public on Friday night.
Once the news broke on social media the congratulations started pouring in, Wiley‘s manager John Wolf took to twitter to share his thoughts on the news saying: “Such a perfect way to end such a special year with @WileyUpdates … Wiley MBE”.
Pay As U Go and Roll Deep-member, DJ Target congratulated his childhood friend saying: “So proud of my brother @WileyUpdates receiving an MBE. Absolutely Amazing”, while MC CASSisDEAD wrote: “Congratulations…huge moment for you and all of us.”
The MBE comes after the release of his autobiography, ‘Wiley: Eskiboy’ detailing his early life, and his journey music. The book includes feature lyrics, never-before-seen photographs and contributions from the people who know him best.
Vowing to put an end to making albums, Wiley saw his latest album, ‘Godfather’ go to No. #9 in the UK Official Album Charts, making it his first top 10 album. The success inspired Wiley to give albums another shot, and he has announced that the follow-up ‘Godfather II’ is in the works and will be released in the first quarter of 2018.
