Sound Of A New Generation: Not3s And Yxng Bane Predicted To Bring New African And Caribbean-Influenced UK Sound To The Mainstream In BBC Music Sound Of 2018
It’s that time of year in the UK music industry when people start reflecting on months gone by, but also look ahead to the new year, and try to predict who will make a significant impact in the next 12 months. Following conducting their annual music industry survey, the BBC Music present the Sounds of 2018.
The acts that appear on the Sound Of list are all hand-picked by a panel of impartial music industry experts from around the world.
Representing “urban music” this year are; Afrobeats-influenced vocalists Not3s, and vocalist/ rapper Yxng Bane, who both have had an incredible year, pushing forward the merged sounds of the Caribbean, Africa, and the UK streets.
The following is a full list of the 16 artist who have made the cut, which was been announce today (Monday, November 27, 2017), and the shortlist (top 5) artists will be revealed from Monday, January 8, 2018, on Radio 1.
BBC Music Sounds Of 2018 Nominee List
Sound Of first launched in 2003 with the aim to showcase the most exciting and innovative rising stars. 16 years on and the list continues to give a glimpse into the future of music and predict some of the biggest stars in the world.
Previous winners include Sam Smith, Adele, Ellie Goulding, HAIM and Years & Years.
Sound Of alumni also includes Stormzy, Florence + The Machine, Rag’n’Bone Man, Chance the Rapper, Dua Lipa and Frank Ocean.
