Ty (@TyMusic) – ‘Brixton Baby‘
UK hip-hop artist/producer, Ty returns with the visuals for his self-produced latest track, ‘Bixton Baby‘, taken from his forthcoming album, ‘Work Of Heart’ to be released on the Jazz refreshed imprint.
As the title suggests, the South London rap-veteran proudly beats his chest about being a ‘Brixton Baby’, detailing the history of the area he holds dear, from African-Caribbean immigrants moving into the area from the 1940’s followed by other Black And Minority Ethnic immigrants.
Earning its reputation as the Mecca for Black Britain, Ty addresses what it was like growing up in a rich cultural environment, but doesn’t shy away from dealing with the challenges of poverty, touching on the issue of street crime in the line; “Watch your back Youts might do a runner, Run up on ya doing dumb shit or dumber”, as well as the communities well-documented volatile relationship with the police, describing it as “So So”.
He also touches on the changing nature of the Lambeth borough district, which is undergoing rapid gentrification.
