Released on May, 6 2016, ‘Konnichiwa’ was one of the most highly-anticipated albums of the last two years. The album immediately made an impact on its release, selling over 15,000 units in its first day, and going to the No #1 in the Official Midweek Album Chart.
After one week of sales, ‘Konnichiwa’ was unable to maintain the No. #1 position on the album chart, but secured the No. #2 spot with sales of 35,065 units. The album continued to perform well in the following five weeks, and was certified silver by the BPI on June 17,2016 (6th week in the chart).
Receiving positive reviews all across the board, ‘Konnichiwa’ marks a breakthrough moment for Skepta, with the album earning him a Mercury, Rated, and the BET Award for ‘Best International Act’ (UK). The success of the album was proceeded by two big singles; ‘That’s Not Me Ft. Jme’, and ‘Shutdown’ which have both been certified silver with the equivalent of over 200,000 units sold.
2016 is without doubt a massive year for the Tottenham MC/ Producer, who has been art the forefront of taking Grime around the world.
