Skepta’s (@ Skepta) – ‘Konnichiwa’ Spends Its Second Week in The Top 10 On The Official UK Albums Chart

We reported last week that Skepta‘s  fourth studio-album,‘Konnichiwa’ had entered the UK Official albums chart, at No #2, and we can now confirm that it’s spending a second week in the top 10, dropping 4 four places to No. #6 for the chart week 20th – 26th May 2016.

Selling 35,065 units in its first 7 days, ‘Konnichiwa’ is believed to have sold a further 14,879 units during chart week 13th – 19th May to bring the accumulative total to 49,944 units if accurate.

The official chart is compiled from data from sales and streaming, this week ‘Konnichiwa’ is No. #14 on the Album sales chart, and No. #2 on the Album streaming  chart.

 

This is a massive achievement for an independent release, which tend to have big sales condensed in to the first week, including pre-orders, but tend to drop off significantly in the second week. With the hype surrounding ‘Konnichiwa’, and its first week success, it appears that interest in the album may be growing, which may mean we may not have seen the last of ‘Konnichiwa’ on the chart.  If the sales estimates are correct, Skepta is just  over 10,000 units  away from  achieving BPI certified Silver status for ‘Konnichiwa’, which we believe he will in the not- too-distant future.
