57th Dynasty (@ 57th Dynasty) – ‘Love Of Hip-Hop’ [1999]
Old Skool Feature of the day for #ThrowbackThursday, May 19 , 2016 is UK Hip Hop group 57th Dynasty’s track ‘The Love Of Hip-Hop’, released in 1999 on FASFWD Ents, and taken from their debut album,‘Spoken Word’.
57th Dynasty hailing from Brixton, south London burst onto the UK HipHop scene in the late nineties, and early noughties, re-introducing the DIY ethos in the UK releasing their records independently, often selling CDs outside Hip-Hop Jams.
The core members of the group throughout their key years were; Paradise, Charlie Parker, Thunda Storm, Oshin, 50:50, Dark Troopa, Lil Monsta and Shineye.
57th Dynasty along with others held the torch for UK-Hip-Hop during the dawn of the new millennium, getting their video played of MTV Europe a very difficult task at the time, which enabled them to perform throughout Europe, while being nominated for a number of awards domestically such as; Best Hip-Hop Act at the Urban Music Award, Best Hip-Hop Act at The MOBO Awards, and winning The Best UK Hip-Hop Act at the UK Hip-Hop Awards.
57th Dynasty also cemented themselves in history when they became the first UK Hip-Hop group to be featured in the Hip-Hop bible The Source Magazine.
