Skepta’s (@Skepta) -‘Konnichiwa’ No. #1 On The Official UK Midweek Album Chart
Boy Better Know’s Skepta released his highly-anticipated album,‘Konnichiwa’ on Friday, May 6, 2016, which shot up the iTunes album chart to take the No. #1 spot, and by default is also No #1 on the iTunes hip-hop/rap chart.
‘Konnichiwa’ maintained its position at the top of the iTunes for three days, which is impressive for an independent release, and also an indication that Skepta could be in for a top 20, or even a top 10 in the official UK albums chart on Friday May 13 .
The official midweek chart was published yesterday (Monday, May,9) which confirmed that, ‘Konnichiwa’ is currently at No. #1, and is 200o copies ahead of its nearest competitor (Beyonce -‘Lemonade’) according to the Official Chart Company.
‘Konnichiwa’ is Skepta’s fourth studio-album, and was rumored to be scrapped at one point, when he opted to drop his mixtape with Tim Westwood instead of the album. While most people probably thought 2015 was the year to drop ‘Konnichiwa’ considering all the coverage and buzz Skepta had generated, it appears the Tottenham MC decided there was more work to done, delayed the release, and continued with touring to make sure he was maximised the promotion before it dropped.
To coincide with the release of ‘Konnichiwa’, Skepta was out in Japan with members of the Boy Better Know crew, performing some of his biggest tracks from album at a special launch party.
While the midweek reports are positive, anything can happen in the last few days on the chart, so to help secure a high-chart position for ‘Konnichiwa’, purchase the album, and keep streaming.
