Growing up in East London, Dizzee Rascal, recollects his nomad-like upbringing in government housing before settling down in the Bow district. Similar to some Americans raised in section 8 housing, drugs and violence were a common occurrence.
He tells DJ Vlad, “There’s a real gun culture in the U.K., just for those who don’t know.” He explained, “It’s very raw.” Although not all U.K. police carry firearms compared to the United States police force, the 31-year-old rapper clarified that there’s also a limited amount of guns obtained by English citizens because the right to bear arms is not a staple in their culture due to some unfortunate incidents. He said, “They’re not as gun crazy there in general because it’s not apart of that—you guys have it apart of the Amendment, so it’s looked down upon.
