South  London  rap duo,  Krept And Konan have cause to celebrate as their latest single   ‘Freak Of The Week Ft. Jeremih’  has entered the  Official UK Singles  at No .#9.

Although it the track came in for  criticism from some hardline fans who felt it was an overly American in influence, the track  instantly  started to pick up with the audience it was probably most intended for, with a few DJ’s getting on board.   We reported on May 18, that ‘Freak of The Weak’ had surpassed the million views mark on YouTube  in only thirteen days,  which gave a strong indication that the track had potential to  do well commercially.

Released on June 28, following being added to the Radio One playlist, ‘Freak Of The Week Ft Jeremih’  , shot up the chart and had secured the No #4 position on the  midweek chart. While a great  achievement,  it has been proven unwise to assume that the track would automatically remain in the same position, as things can change drastically towards the end of the week with a rush last minute purchases.

In a interview following a listening party for their new album, ‘The Long Way Home’  (Out Now) Krept expressed that ‘Freak Of The Week‘ was ahead of its nearest competitor in sales by quite a bit ,  but the distance was rapidly decreasing due to the large number streams they were receiving.

The Play Dirty wordsmiths have been active on social media all throughout the run-up to the release, as well as doing the traditional media promotion, interviews and loads of performances.  Most recently the pair grace the stage at the Wireless festival,  bringing  some of the most popular artist from UK Rap, and Grime to join them on stage to perform their various underground hits.

At 7:00pm today (Sunday, July 5) the new Official Singles Chart was published, and as with a number of big songs from the world of BritHop , ‘Freak Of The Week Ft. Jeremih’ had  slid down the chart, but  manged to secure the No. #9 spot.

This still without doubt a great achievement, and will hopefully set them up for similar success with the album, which is currently No. #1 on the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap Chart.
