MC Duke  – “I’m Riffin [1989]

Old Skool Feature of the day for Tuesday, February 10,  is a MC Duke’s  track  ‘I’m Riffin (English Rasta)MC Duke was a rapper from East London who made a breakthrough as an artist when he won a MC battle at DMC World Championships.

In attendance was UK Hip-Hop pioneer Derek B who was working as a ANR for Music Of Life label owned by Simon Harris. Impressed with MC Duke’s performance he quickly set up a meeting between MC Duke and Simon Harris, which resulted in MC Duke being signed.

Released in 1989 on Music Of Life, ‘I’m Riffin (English Rasta). was  MC Dukes most popular single, from his debut album with DJ Leader1, ‘Organised Rhyme’.

MC Duke  is definitely one of early BritHop Pioneers, who help popularise the early British hardcore style.   MC Duke we salute you!
