Lethal Bizzle’s – “Pow (Forward)” ten years on
On December 20, 2004 (ten years ago today) former-More Fire Crew MC, Lethal Bizzle‘s single, “Pow! (Forward)“ was released on Relentless Records.
“Pow! (Forward)” has cemented itself as one of the biggest Grime tunes in history, charting at number 11 on the UK Singles Chart on 1 January 2005.
Featuring a line up of names bubbling at the time in the emerging grime scene; Fumin, D Double E, Napper, Jamakabi, Neeko, Flowdan, Ozzie B, MC Forcer and Demon, “Pow! (Forward)”, quickly became an anthem, with support from pirate stations, and urban music station “Channel U”, now known as “Channel AKA”.
Blamed for provoking fights in clubs and featuring controversial lyrics about gun culture, “Pow! (Forward)” banned from many clubs, and some radio stations refused to play the track.
Commentary
There is no doubt in our mind that Lethal Bizzle‘s “Pow! (Forward)” is classic, an underground track that organically built up it’s momentum to become a Top 20 hit. It charted with very little mainstream radio support, and has stood the test of time.
Lethal Bizzle we salute you!
