Bigger Than Hip-Hop fest ival 26th October to 3rd of December

 In the last 40 years Hip-Hop has become the dominant force in popular culture. Bigger Than Festival celebrates the history and future of Hip-Hop in all its forms with a carefully curated series of events live shows, club nights, panel discussions, film screenings and more.

What’s In A Name?
‘Bigger Than’ is not only a reference to the hugely popular Dead Prez track ‘Bigger Than Hip-Hop’, which they will perform on as part of the festival, but also highlights that the festival’s celebration that Hip-Hop has always been so much more than it’s musical form.

Having started with the ‘4 elements’ DJing, MCing, B-Boying and Graffiti
Hip-Hop is now the greatest cultural influence of the 20th & 21st Centuries. Incorporating film, fashion, language etc Hip-Hop is seen and heard in every aspect of modern life from advertising to fine art.

What’s The Aim?
The primary aim of the festival is to immerse as many people as possible in Hip-Hop culture. Whether through attending a live show, panel discussion, a club night, film or any event of the festival. Appealing to established Hip-Hop fans and the uninitiated alike we will show the huge influence Hip-Hop has had in the last 40 years through our schedule of cultural events.

What are the events?

24th October  – Opening Party with DJ Jazzy Jeff @ Plan B
We launch the festival with a rare show from the greatest DJ on earth.

29th October – Dead Prez @ The Jazz Café
As the inspiration for the festivals name this New York duo had to feature!

30th October – Turned On: UK Hip-Hop Panel Discussion @ Roundhouse
A panel of UK influencers open up a discussion on homegrown Hip-Hop

7th November  – OG Lounge @ Edition Hotel – FREE PARTY

Something for the OG (Older Generation) we celebrate DJ MK’s Birthday

8th November – Nas & Stones Throw Documentary Films @ Ace Hotel
Double bill of incredible Hip-Hop Documentaries for 70 people only

8th November – DJ Yoda live @ The Jazz Café

The UK’s most exciting and experimental DJs debut’s his live band show

14th November  – The Doctor’s Orders @ Trapeze
London’s No.1 Hip-Hop party returns to with special guest House Shoes.

16th November – Doppelgangaz @ Hoxton Bat & Kitchen

This duo of NYC MC / Producers perform this intimate Shoreditch venue.

18th November – Spin Doctor’s Hip-Hop Pub Quiz @ The Book Club

Just like a regular pub quiz just about Hip-Hop for Teams of up to 6 people.

18th November – RA Rugged Man @ The Jazz Café

This underground hero will be tearing the roof off Camden’s legendary venue.

21st November – Boom Bap Festival Reunion @ The Jazz Café

Incredible line up of UK talent including Triple Darkness and Fliptrix.

21st November- Hip-Hop vs R&B @ The Jazz Café

30th November – J Dilla Day ft Elzhi, Guilty Simpson & Phat Kat @ Cargo
Tribute to Detroit producer with performances from his closet collaborators.

3rd December – Talib Kweli @ The Garage

Dynamic Brooklyn MC returns to London for incredible display of verbal skills.
