Sunday, May 18, 2014 was billed as the “biggest night in Grime history”, with two of the scenes top MCs, Big H and P Money facing off for lyrical supremacy at Lord Of The Mics 6.
This hotly anticipated clash was questioned by some when the price of tickets were announced, which promoter Jammer set at the extortionate price of £100, a price that is only being topped by Emimen, who will be making history as the first rapper to headline a concert at Wembley stadium later this year.
Jammer responded to those who were disgruntled with the price, explaining that he was putting on a historic event, with undercard clashes between Dialect and Opium, Dorris and Hazman, signed T-shirts, and copy of the DVD when it’s released in July. There would also be the chance to win the golden ticket, which would entitle the winner to VIP all access at the event.
The turn out for the event is reported to be have been at full capacity with some of the biggest names in the Grime scene in attendance OGz, Boy Better Know, Maxsta, Big Shizz, Big Narstie, Lethal B, and more.
The event kicked off with the undercard clashes; Dialect Vs Opium, and Dorris Vs Hazman, both according to the buzz on Twitter went extremley well, wetting the crowds appetite for the main event, Big H Vs P Money.
Initial reports regarding the clash between Big H and P Money suggested that Big H spat a few bars in each round then failed to continue because he had forgotten his lyrics. Then when encouraged to spit some some other bars, he refused claiming that he has spat the bars he agreed for the clash, and that: “If Jammer wants more bars, he’s gonna have to pay man some more P”.
Big-H via his management has released a public statement correcting what say is misinformation regarding clash.
Did Lord Of The Mics 6, live up to all the hype? Well there is no doubt that it was big night for Grime that manage to bring out all the all the leading names in the scene, and delivered undercard clashes were well received, but according to the reaction of many fans who seemed disappointed with how Big H ended the clash it would fair to deduce that the main event didn’t live up to the hype, as the a large proportion of the fans were left unsatisfied.
Will there be a rematch? Watch this space.
