@Krept&Konan, @JClarke_Ghetts, @DizzeeRascal, and @TinieTempah nominated for BET Award.

South London Rap-duo Krept & Konan, East London Grime MCs, Ghetts & Dizzee Rascal, and Tinie Tempah have all been nomimated in The Best International Act: UK category at this years BET Awards.  The awards will take place on Sunday, June 29 in the US.

BET have been showing an interest in over-seas acts for a while, including an international section to their awards, and commissioning UK versions of their signature cypher, which is filmed as part of the build up to their Hip-Hop awards since its inception in 2006.

UK Rap has done quite well over the years with three out of four past winners since 2010, being rappers.  Kicking things off was Dizzee Rascal who took the Award in 2o1o,  which  was quite impressive as at this time BET only had not created a UK category, meaning Dizzee was not only competing with UK artists, but African artists as well.  2011 saw the introduction of separate categories for UK and Africa,  and Tinie Tempah’s onslaught on to the music world, resulting in him scooping the award that year.

Tottenham rapper Wretch 32 broke through from the underground to win the award in 2012, and Wiley was nominated in 2013, but was pip at the post by singer Emile Sande.

It appears that introduction of the UK sub-category in the Best International Act category has led to the phasing out of UK acts being included in their Hip-Hop awards, which they did from 2006 -2008, but has been noticeably absent since.
