Foot-Loose And Fancy-Free: Footsie on merging genres, social media, & Grime’s rocky relationship with the mainstream.
Footsie, One half of the East London Grime act, Newham Generals (Dizzee Rascal’s first signing to his label Dirtee Stank) , has been hard at work doing shows, and interviews for his latest release, ‘Original King Vol 3’.
In a recent interview with RWD Magazine he speaks on a number of issues from the merging of different EDM (Electronic Dance Music) genres, and Hip-Hop, to how social networking, and the digital age is changing the way that Grime, and music in general are being consumed.
One of the points that he stressed is that Grime artist don’t need the mainstream, and they should focus on building their fan-base and push their music themselves with the use of social media and the internet, keeping the integrity of their sound, and let the mainstream find out about them organically. He questions: “why would you change for something that’s not supporting you anyway”.
